Creating a blog with WordPress

To create a WordPress blog, do the following:

  1. Go to the WordPress home page.
  2. Find the “sign up now” link, and press enter.
  3. You will next see a page that asks you for some information. Move down the page until you find the first text field, which is the username field. Type your preferred username.
  4. Move down again until you find the next text field. Type a password here.
  5. Move down to the following text field. This is the password confirmation field, and you should type your password again here.
  6. After you have entered your password twice, move down again to the next text field. Enter your e-mail address here.
  7. Move down until you find a checkbox. This is the legal terms checkbox, and you have to check it before you can continue. Press space to check the checkbox.
  8. Move down again until you reach a group of two radio buttons. The first one is checked. Leave it checked if you want to make a blog. If you only want to make a user name and not a blog, check the second radio button.
  9. Move down again until you find the “next” button, and press space.
  10. If all goes well, you will move to the next page where you can check or change the settings for your blog. Move down until you reach the first text field, which shows the domain name of your blog. Anyone who wants to read your blog will type this address, for example, the domain name of the Teruko Ikeda ICT blog is terukoikeda.wordpress.com
  11. Now move down again until you find the next text field. This is where you can choose a title for your blog. The default title is your user name + apostrophe + the word blog, for example “Terukoikeda’s blog.” Feel free to choose any title you like.
  12. Move down again until you reach the language combo box. This is the language you will use to write your blog. The default is English, but you can choose another language if you like.
  13. Now move down until you reach the “privacy” checkbox. Leave it checked if you want your blog to be listed in search engines like Google. If you want your blog to be private, uncheck this checkbox.
  14. Finally, move down again until you find the “signup” button, and press space.
  15. A new page will now appear. This is the e-mail validation page. WordPress sends an e-mail message to the e-mail address you entered earlier. Before you can use your new blog, you have to click a link included in this message. We will do this later. <liWhile you are waiting for the e-mail message, you can update your WordPress profile. Move down the page until you reach the “first name” text field, and type your first name.
  16. Now move down to the “last name” text field, and enter your last name.
  17. Move down again to the next text field. Here you can write some information about you or your organisation.
  18. When you have finished updating your profile, move down the page until you find the “save” button, and press space.
  19. When the activation e-mail arrives, open it and find the link. It will be in the body of the message. Press enter on the link, and the WordPress page will open in your web browser. You can now view your new blog or log in.
  20. To log in, go to your web browser, move down the page until you find the “log in” link, and press enter on it. You will then see the WordPress log in page.
  21. Find the “user name” text field, and enter your user name.
  22. Now move to the “password” text field, and type your password.
  23. Move down until you find the “remember me” checkbox. If you are the only person using your computer, you can check this checkbox so that you won’t have to log in again. However, if other people use your computer, it is safer to leave this checkbox unchecked.
  24. Now move to the “log in” button and press space. You will then see your new WordPress blog.
