Adding a new post
To add a new post to your blog, do the following:
- Make sure that you are logged in to your blog, and go to its front page.
- Now move down the page until you reach the “new post” link and press enter.
- A new page will appear. This is where you can write your new blog post.
- Make sure that you are at the top of the page by pressing ctrl + home, and then Press the letter “h” until you find the “post tags” heading.
- Now press down arrow until you reach an edit field. This is where can type the tags for your post. Tags are like keywords that describe the content of your post, for example, “MS Word tip,” “Excel formula help,” “Jaws tip,” and so on. If you want to enter more than one tag, you can seperate the tags with a comma like this: “MS Word tip, Jaws 10, using tables.”
- When you have entered your tags, move down the page again until you reach the “categories” heading.
- Now move down the page again until you find the list of categories, or an edit field where you can type a new category name. Categories are a way to organise your blog posts, for example, in the Teruko Ikeda ICT Blog, there are categories for “JBL,” “NCBM,” “tip,” “Ubuntu,” and so on. If your blog is new, it is likely that you don’t have any categories. In this case, move down the page until you find the “plus add new category” heading, and press enter on it to show the “add new category” edit field. Press down arrow to move to the field, type your category, and then press down arrow until you find the “add” button. Press enter, and your new category will be added. Note that the newest category is the first item in the categories list, and it is checked. This means that your new blog post will be categorised using the category that you just added. If you don’t want this to happen, press the letter “h” until you find the “categories” heading, then press down arrow until you find the categories list. Move down the list of categories, and press space to check or uncheck the ones you want to use.
- Next move down the page with down arrow until you find the word “title.” Press down arrow again, and you will be in the “title” edit field. This is where you should enter your new blog post’s title.
- Now continue to move down the page until you reach an unlabelled edit field. This is where you can enter the main text of your post. Note that your blog post can contain html tags.
- Once you have finished composing your blog post, move away from the edit field, and press the letter “b” until you find the “publish” button. Press enter to activate this button, and your new post will be added to your blog.
- After your post has been saved, you will return to the blog’s dashboard. If you want to view your blog, move to the top of the dashboard page by pressing ctrl + home, and then press the letter “h” until you find the “visit site” heading. This is also a link, so press enter on it and you will move back to your blog’s main page.
